Overview

An exceptional, fully restored mid-century design classic, the Ercol Model 382 Windsor Plank Dining Table represents one of Lucian Ercolani’s purest expressions of post-war British modernism.

Constructed from wide, solid native English elm planks, the top displays an undulating, organic figure complemented by Ercol’s trademark chamfered "floating" underside profile and soft rounded corners. The top rests upon an architectural Chiltern beech underframe defined by splayed, tapered cylindrical legs anchored with a central longitudinal stretcher rail.

Proportioned to seat 4 to 6 diners comfortably, its compact footprint and open architecture make it equally at home in contemporary open-plan kitchen diners or period mid-century interiors. Sympathetically overhauled by our workshop at the historic Royal Ordnance Depot in Weedon Bec, this table has been brought back to life to provide decades of daily family use.

Workshop Restoration Scope

Rather than being presented in worn vintage lacquer, this piece has received a full, conservation-grade overhaul:

  • Stripping & Timber Prep: The original, yellowed factory lacquer was carefully removed back to raw wood, preserving the authentic contours and natural depth of the native English elm.

  • Hand-Sanded Surface: The planks were hand-finished through progressive fine grits to lift historical water rings and cup marks while retaining the honest character of the grain.

  • Protective Hard-Wax Finish: Sealed with multiple coats of premium, microporous matte hard-wax oil. This breathable treatment creates an ultra-durable, water- and heat-resistant finish that feels tactile to the touch and will never yellow or crack.

  • Structural Tightening: All beech leg dowels, mortise joints, and stretcher mounts were cleaned, inspected, and clamped tight. The frame is rock-solid with zero movement.
