An iconic British design classic: a fully restored Ercol Model 365  Windsor 'Quaker' Dining Chair, designed by Lucian Ercolani and crafted in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.
Instantly recognisable by its sweeping, steam-bent tall hoop back and five internal spindles, the Quaker chair offers a dramatic silhouette combined with comfortable upper-back support. The seat is sculpted from a single slab of solid native English elm, showing prominent medullary ray figure, anchored to splayed cylindrical Chiltern beech legs and double stretchers.
Equally striking as a standalone desk/dressing table seat or as part of a dining set around an Ercol plank table, this piece has been fully overhauled in our Weedon Bec workshop. Stripped of its aged vintage factory finish and sealed in protective matte hard-wax oil, it delivers classic mid-century design prepared for modern everyday use.
Workshop Restoration Scope
Complete Stripping: Factory-applied amber varnish was carefully removed back to raw wood to restore the natural contrast between the pale Chiltern beech frame and the rich English elm seat.
Hand-Sanding: Hand-finished through progressive fine grits, smoothing all spindles, the steam-bent hoop back, and dished seat contours while preserving authentic timber character.
Durable Hard-Wax Oil Finish: Sealed with multiple coats of microporous matte hard-wax oil. The resulting surface is water-repellent, stain-resistant, and silky to the touch, without peeling or yellowing over time.
Structural Rigidity: Spindles, leg tenons, and under-rail joints were checked, tightened, and secured. The chair sits completely rigid with zero frame movement or wobble.
